Terms of Use
Last updated November 1, 2026
In plain terms. This site gives you a free solar estimate for a Montana property and, if you ask, sends your request to licensed installers that serve your address, who pay us for the introduction. Estimates are best-case figures with the full range disclosed; they are not quotes, offers or financial advice. Any contract you sign is with the installer, not with us.
These terms are an agreement between you and Montana Solar Estimate (“we”, “us”). By using this website you accept them and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
1. Who we are
Montana Solar Estimate is an independent Montana business. We are not a solar installer, an electric utility, a lender, a government agency or an agent of any of them. We do not design, sell, finance or install solar equipment, and we do not endorse any installer.
2. Using the site
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- You may request an estimate only for a property you own, lease or are authorized to act for, and you may ask for installer contact only for yourself.
- You agree to enter accurate information. The estimate is only as good as the address and usage you give it.
- You may not scrape, crawl, bulk-query or reverse-engineer the site, run automated requests against it, resell its output, or use it to obtain information about other people’s properties.
3. Estimates are estimates
Our figures come from public data, third-party models and the information you enter: your utility’s published rates and net-metering rules, a solar-yield model, Google’s roof data for your property, published installed-cost data, and the incentives in force on the date shown. We present best-case figures (system size for full offset, “as low as” cost and payback, “up to” savings) and disclose the full range and every assumption beneath them. Read that disclosure; it is part of the estimate.
- An estimate is not an offer, quote, contract, system design, engineering assessment, or tax, legal or financial advice. Your actual costs, production and savings will differ, and may differ a lot.
- We do not guarantee any price, production, savings, payback period or incentive. Tax credits and depreciation depend on your own tax situation and on laws that change; consult a tax professional before relying on them.
- We do not offer financing and nothing on this site is an offer or advertisement of credit. If an installer offers financing, its lender’s disclosures govern.
- Installed-cost and savings data are reviewed on the date printed in the footer and may be out of date.
4. Bill uploads and AI reading
You may upload a photo or PDF of a utility bill to improve the estimate. By uploading it you confirm that the bill is for the property you entered and that you are entitled to share it. An AI model reads the figures from the bill and the image is then discarded; we never store it, and we do not extract the account number or the account holder’s name. Like any reader it can make mistakes, so check the figures it shows you before you continue, and treat every number produced from them as an estimate. Bills are handled as described in the Privacy Policy.
5. Requesting quotes from installers
If you check the consent box and confirm your mobile number, we send your request to licensed solar installers that serve your address, and they pay us for it. The consent wording you see at that step is part of these terms. What you should expect:
- The installers are independent businesses. We do not control what they offer, and we do not guarantee that any installer will contact you, make an offer, or honor the figures in your estimate.
- Any proposal, contract, warranty or financing is solely between you and the installer. Read it before you sign.
- You can withdraw your consent at any time by replying STOP to a text, by any other reasonable means, or on Your Privacy Rights. Consent is never a condition of buying anything.
Text messages. When you ask for quotes we text you a one-time verification code, and we may text you a link to your estimate. Message frequency varies; message and data rates may apply; reply STOP to end or HELP for help. Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
6. Your protections as a Montana solar buyer
- If you sign a contract for a solar energy system on a residential property, Montana law gives you the right to cancel it within three business days after signing by written notice to the person named in the contract for that purpose, by email or certified mail (MCA 30-14-166). The contract must explain this in capital letters with space for your initials.
- Solar companies and their sales agents may not use deceptive statements about the costs, financing or terms of a solar purchase. Report problems to the Montana Attorney General’s Office of Consumer Protection, and tell us too at mtsolarestimate@gmail.com; we remove installers that mistreat the people we introduce.
7. Google Maps
This site includes Google Maps features and content. Your use of those features and content is subject to the then-current Google Maps End User Additional Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy. Roof data is from Google’s Solar API and may be incomplete or out of date for your building; the imagery date is shown with it.
8. Our content and yours
The site, its design, text, graphics, model and code are ours or our licensors’ and are protected by copyright and trademark law. You may download and share the PDF estimate for your own property. You keep ownership of the bill and information you give us and grant us the limited right to use them to provide the service described in the Privacy Policy.
9. Disclaimers and limits on liability
The site and every estimate are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the fullest extent the law allows, Montana Solar Estimate and its owners are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special or punitive damages, or for any decision you make or contract you sign in reliance on an estimate or an installer, and our total liability for any claim relating to the site is limited to one hundred dollars. Some jurisdictions do not allow some of these limits; where that is so, they apply to the extent permitted.
10. Changes, law and contact
We may update these terms by posting a new version with a new date; your continued use after that is acceptance. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Montana and applicable federal law, and any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Montana. If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest remains in force. Questions: mtsolarestimate@gmail.com.
